Designing a deep rim that has very low drag properties and yet remains controllable by the vast majority of riders in crosswinds has never been achieved until the Vortex 73 was released.

Some think it’s all about making the rim deeper!
If you struggle to control an 80mm or deeper rim in crosswinds then you are wasting too much energy as you increase your overall drag by moving you body out of your aero bike position. This primarily effects riders under 75kgs and has a dramatic effect if the rider is under 65kgs.
So any advantage you think you had with a very deep rim has been offset and magnified by the loss of control when riding in anything about a light breeze.

The Vortex 73 is 23.8mm wide and includes an angled braking surface. This section of the rim has been optimized to control the airflow from the tyre onto the rim profile.

The unique rim profile combined with the precise placement of our Vortex Generators that ‘trips’ the airflow just after the braking surface insures unsurpassed control of the laminar airflow as it follows the rim profile for optimum performance at angles of attack from 0-20 degrees.

The Vortex 73 wheels are built using our own precision design and engineered hub system. Our front hub is a feather weight 62g and the equally as light rear of 218g that can be changed with ease from Shimano to Campagnolo.

The profile has been optimized for use with tyres up to 23mm wide. Testing has proven 20mm and 21mm wide tyres have the best aerodynamic performance.

Vortex Generators
The Vortex Generators 'trips' the airflow just after the braking surface and creates a paper thin turbulent layer on the rim surface. This ensures unsurpassed control of the laminar airflow as it faithfully follows the rim profile generating forward lift and optimum performance at angles of attack from 0-20 degrees.
