Quantum’ combines 20 years of knowledge gained from hand crafting the lightest and fastest carbon fibre wheels with the latest in aerodynamic optimising software and 3D computer modeling. By analysing the data from all currently available disc wheel designs (flat, lenticular, toroidal/bulged rim to flat), we identified common design deficiencies that prevent conventional designs from delivering optimal performance.
Our research found that the profile and construction of conventional disc wheels has been dictated by what is 'easy to build' and mass produce at a price rather than the best aerodynamic design.
From boomerangs to Boeings, anything that is intended to ‘fly’ requires the systematic application of all of the laws of aerodynamics to arrive at the perfect combination of surface profile, weight and structural integrity. In short it needs a wing.
Through rigorous testing and retesting of numerous profiles to fit within the constraints of current frame designs, gear mechanisms and a real life peak performance window of between 8-20 degrees angle of attack, 3 Sixty Degrees has created the first truly revolving wing for cycling, revolutionary triple curvature design to mimic the airflow over an aircraft wing. As its name suggests, it’s a quantum leap in carbon fibre wheel aerodynamics.
Quantum's hollow core construction made from dual multi-modulus carbon skins effectively results in two independent sides capable of responding independently to the rough contours and imperfections of the road. This anti-vibration dampening gives the rider a much smoother ride than core filled flat discs.
The Quantum wheels are built using our own precision design and engineered hub system. The hub system uses the same axle/drive components as our Vortex range, meaning the cassette body can be changed with ease from Shimano to Campagnolo.
The Quantum also features our removable hub design. This allows you to easily change the one Vector trispoke to either a front, rear, road or rear track wheel.
The profile has been optimized for use with tyres up to 23mm wide. Testing has proven 20mm and 21mm wide tyres have the best aerodynamic performance.

Vortex Generators
The Vortex Generators 'trips' the airflow just after the braking surface and creates a paper thin turbulent layer on the rim surface. This ensures unsurpassed control of the laminar airflow as it faithfully follows the rim profile generating forward lift and optimum performance at angles of attack from 0-20 degrees.

pB 'Pressure Balance Technology'
This employs a triple curvature design to mimic the airflow over an aircraft wing. The curved leading edge or ‘pressure bulge’ directs airflow onto a marginally thinner concave profile before rising again to another pressure bulge at the hub. This produces an airflow that ‘sticks’ to the entire disc surface generating successive areas of lift. The result is a 3.5% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency over previous disc designs.
hARD 'Hybrid Carbon-Alloy Rim Design'
Historically there has been many problems with carbon clinchers; low tyre pressure, heat distortion, partial or complete failure at the tyre bead. We has overcome this problem with our new ‘hARD’ technology. Using ultra lightweight alloy material imbedded in super strong carbon, giving you the superior strength of an alloy rim with the lightweight performance and comfort of full carbon.
